What is Marching Band? |
A competitive marching band is a group in which musicians perform for entertainment and compete at adjudicated events for judges. Most marching bands wear some kind of uniform (often of a military style) that includes the school or organization's colors, name or symbol. High school marching bands include a winds section, percussion, and color guard. The Color Guard are a group of performers who add a visual interpretation to the music through the use of props, most often flags and rifles.
An example of a phenomenal marching band is below: |

The Fort Frye Marching Cadets competes at Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) competitions and local events such as parades, festivals, and football games. Traditionally, the marching band begins with a band camp at the beginning of August, rehearses leading up to school at nights, and then has afternoon rehearsals during the school year. The Fort Frye High School Marching Band performs in about 5-6 competitions in the OMEA circuit. |
